This year's conference featured an impactful, "deepen your work from where you are right now" theme inspired by Helen Palmer's latest work and many years of experience, Guest Keynote, Poet and Renown Author, David Whyte, along with EANT's David Daniels M.D., Jack Killen, and Kristen Arthur, presenting their latest research, and several other EANT member teachers and professionals.
We All Very Much Enjoyed Keynote David Whyte
Our guest speaker brought an engaging presence and his inspiring poetry. His purposeful and rhythmic recitations brought participants to the edges of life where attention sharpens and the heart beckons. He took us on a poetic journey that deepened our own experience of "now." His blending of presentation with poetry was so seamless we all marveled at it. This, of his his many poems shared, seemed to touch us all, incredibly:"Start close in,
don't take the second step
or the third,
start with the first
thing
close in,
the step you don't want to take..."David Whyte grew up in Yorkshire, England. He studied Marine Zoology in Wales and trained as a naturalist in the Galapagos Islands. He has also worked as a naturalist guide, leading anthropological and natural history expeditions in various parts of the world, including treks among the mountains of Nepal. Whyte's poetry reflects a living spirituality and a deep connection to the natural world. His life as a poet has created a readership and listenership in three normally mutually exclusive areas: the literate world of readings that most poets inhabit, the psychological and theological worlds of philosophical enquiry, and the world of vocation, work, and corporate leadership.
This year's conference, located on the shores of the Pacific ocean at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California combined beauty, poetry, silence, ritual, presentation, somatic awareness, dancing, and lively conversations into one incredible three-day experience.
Continuing on with the depth, breadth, and community experience so deeply shared in Asheville, North Carolina during our 2010 conference, we were so excited to bring the conference back to California this year. Thanks to all who participated and contributed. We are all a part of the ongoing making of this very special association and the fine work it continues to do in the world, through its members.
